In my experience, getting newer systems serviced isn't, if you do routine maintenance on it, necessary, but if it's over say 7 years old, then getting it serviced yearly is a great idea.

@swirlie The two components of risk management are probability of occurrence and the consequence. If the probability is high and the consequence is high, then you do something to mitigate the risk. You don't wait for it to break. If the prob. is low and conseq. is low, then it's okay to do nothing and let risk occur. In the case of our AC, the probability of a failure is not zero and increases over the years. The consequence, which we have suffered several times, is totally undesirable. Therefore we mitigate as much risk as possible by having an expert check it out each spring.

@swirlie I had enough money saved to retire on and was ready to do some other things like volunteer work, genealogical research, golf, and other fun stuff. They asked me to return as a consultant, but I refused. I miss some of my people, but some of us get together for lunch occasionally.
