Can Black mold affect someone even if they aren't in the same room?

I have a friend who just moved into a new place a recently noticed black mold in his room. He's been staying in his living room to try to avoid it, but he's been coughing up mucus that is yellow/green and thick, he said he thinks he has coughed up blood, he had a headache and stuffy/runny nose, etc. At first, I thought he had a cold until I looked up the symptoms of mold toxicity. I'm trying to get him to schedule an appointment to see a doc tomorrow, but he is being stubborn and doesn't want to go. He said he has to go to work, but I'm worried about him.

yes,he needs to have his landlord look into it,in most places they are liable for fixing it. he should move out in the meanwhile, until its sorted ,and definitely see a doctor.
