Pfizer Vaccine only 42% effective with Delta variant Breakthrough cases.

The vast majority of breakthrough cases will not be severe.

Moderna is 72% effective against Delta breakthroughs.

Booster shots will be available to those who are immunocompromised, and, possibly, to the elderly.
curiosi · 61-69, F
Right on cue, endless booster shots on the way.
1354swrdt · 70-79, M
These sort of statistics can be misleading because the vaccine is far more effective at preventing serious illness even if it doesn’t prevent you catching it.

@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON If you go to Amazon.com you can see the N-95's. They are VERY tight, and the elastics go behind the head...but they say nothing gets through.
@4meAndyou do you guys wear them? They are heavy duty.
4meAndyou · F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON We couldn't GET them when this thing broke out. I ordered 50 of them, and they are uncomfortable, because the seal is so tight...but that is part of what makes them safe. They did a study on 1600 people in Thailand, and cloth masks are useless. Particulates of the same size as the virus go right through.

Surgical masks are also useless because they don't seal tightly.

If only they come up with those testing resource for Delta Variant.

Which they didn't bother to make one and only manage to test for Covid.

Or...do they?
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@4meAndyou they take a random sample of positive pcr tests and then genome sequence from that to determine the variant / strain. At least that what is done in the UK.

We are also genome sequencing some samples from other countries without the capacity I believe
4meAndyou · F
@OldBrit Thank you. That's great information. Sounds costly, though.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@4meAndyou 🤷‍♂️ our government budgetted £37 billion for two years for the whole test, track and trace part of nhs
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Uk government stats
the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 88% effective against symptomatic disease from the B.1.617.2 variant 2 weeks after the second dose, compared to 93% effectiveness against the B.1.1.7 variant is
B. 1.617.2 is Delta
B. 1.1.7 is beta

4meAndyou · F
@OldBrit It seems that waiting between doses is a VERY smart move if you are taking the Pfizer vaccine.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@4meAndyou I think there's another PHE clinical trial where they have looked at time between doses and also using a mix for 2 doses or for a 3rd booster. Not sure that it's published yet. Again another advantage to our health system is rapid large scale studies like this run nationally
4meAndyou · F
@OldBrit I am glad you are happy with your health system.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
So now its three shots
4meAndyou · F
@Sheer ?? Nope. Luna is a friend of mine from way back. I think we've known each other about 5 years. She's a good person.
@4meAndyou He is not all there.

I need to find another one but, (this is REALLY BAD TIMING. I have reasons why I can't quit him, not yet) But ,what is a booster? I don't know why we don't know about them here.

Also I can't ever get through our provincial health lines, not for months. It always drops the call on me.
4meAndyou · F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON You can order the N-95 masks. They are supposed to work really well. Just to let you know, SW keeps shutting down on me, so I will probably have to go offline for a bit.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON Don't listen to any advice you read on social media except the ones that say talk your Doctor(GP).
@KiwiBird He's off his rocker. So no thank you.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON Get a different Dr. Simple.
@KiwiBird Never occurred to me :)
Someone I know has developed pericarditis from Moderna.
4meAndyou · F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON I am very sorry for them. I have heard that young men are sometimes at risk. Cherokeepatti posted something about it, but I'm afraid I didn't have time that particular day to read it in its entirety. It was a scientific article.
@4meAndyou I probably need to talk with her.

Thank you. L.
4meAndyou · F
Ok. I have a Q. I am in Canada and no one here has told me(us),and this is my FIRST time actually reading about booster shot. What is a booster shot? I am very confused.
@4meAndyou Nope. I don't have any of the shots. I am petrified I will get worse, two people got two different reactions with pfizer and moderana. So, yeah. This is not great for me.

I am going to a clinic and hopefully, they can advise me bc as it stands I just don't have a person to tell me anything realistic (as it actually relates to me)
and I am like walking on the edge of a knife. Not good.
4meAndyou · F
@LunadelobosIAMTHEDRAGON The truth is, many health care professionals have no idea of the long term effects of the vaccines. All we know for now is that they keep most people out of the hospital and alive if they are hospitalized. Cherokeepatti probably knows more than your demented family physician...because she studies and reads constantly about it, and most doctors don't have time for that.
@4meAndyou Excellent. Then she is just the person I need to connect with.

Thank you.

@4meAndyou I definitely will. I'm not even 47 yet and I'm falling apart!!😂
4meAndyou · F
@SW-User Take vitamin D, and zinc, and vitamin C every day!
SW-User
@4meAndyou will do!! I can do that. Thank you for that!!🤗
Sheer · F
Ohhh, I wanted Pfizer but could only get Moderna, so got it, and if this was true, I'm lucky I suppose!
This is bull patties!
To be sure, the authors found that both vaccines "strongly protect" against severe disease; the difference appears to be more about whether people get infected at all in the first place. The CDC has said the risk of infection is 8x higher in the unvaccinated than the vaccinated, and the risk of hospitalization or death is 25x higher.
The so-called pre-print study, which has not gone through a peer review or been published in an academic journal, was first released on Sunday, though gained more notice on Wednesday when Axios reported that the Biden administration is taking the data as a "wakeup call."
I highlighted the important bits there.

@SW-User I would appreciate a link to where you got this. I wish others would post links to anything they post from sites too.

I had my second Moderna vaccination today, still feeling ok.
Do you have a link to the data that supports your claim? Others have reported much different numbers:
In Britain, researchers reported in May that two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had an effectiveness of 88 percent protecting against symptomatic disease from Delta. A June study from Scotland concluded that the vaccine was 79 percent effective against the variant. On Saturday, a team of researchers in Canada pegged its effectiveness at 87 percent.

And on Monday, Israel’s Ministry of Health announced that the effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 64 percent against all coronavirus infections, down from about 95 percent in May, before the Delta variant began its climb to near-total dominance in Israel.
