Young Folks in the Gym?

Do any young people know what it means when you ask if you can "Work in"?

We always worked in with strangers, but now they look at me like I'm crazy.

I’ve never heard that expression before and I’m 58 years old. Do you mean that you just walk up to strangers at the gym and ask if you can work out with them?
DogMan · 61-69, M
@Mardrae Yes, when I started going to the gym back in the early 80's we always worked
in with strangers, but they didn't stay strangers for long.

@DogMan I could never do that. To me, working out at the gym is my alone time. It drives me crazy if someone tries to chat with me when I’m working out

@Mardrae And that's fine, I'm the same way. Back in the day, it was a tight knit group
of people that went to the gym and pumped iron. It was well before 24hr fitness, and the million other chains.
Outside of California, it was a weird thing to do. When I was in
the military in the late 70's. I had a room mate that was a powerlifter,
he got me into weight training, and it stuck with me for life.
I'm almost 64, and I don't think I will never stop.

@DogMan I love lifting weights! I won’t stop either!
