Do you ever get scared when you interact with teenagers? They remind me strongly of my mortality.

Because to them life is just beginning they have a long life ahead of them and they remind me that I’m nowhere near such a long life, I’m in the middle or even near the end. I don’t have kids, but if I did, I would probably freak out when they were teenagers. They think so differently than us, they don’t completely follow societies conventions yet, they’re like wild. And it freaks me out. Because I remember being that age. And it just really reminds me that I’m getting old. I never really think about it otherwise.

I understand what you mean intellectually about them giving you a feeling about your mortality but what stands out for me is less about that and more about just the idea that they are like humans that have no clear perspective of even themselves that is clear even though they think it is. I feel this way because in my own life I recall just how truly distorted my perception of the world was at that age. Just like how a cat thinks all problems in life can be solved by catching all the things that move suddenly perhaps. So when I see them I think less about age and I guess more about insanity.

@unsociableAnthony yes it’s true. They’re completely wild. It must be hard being a teacher. I think teachers are all a bit weird because they have to deal with these …gremlins. You have to start all over with them. Takes a lot out of you.
@Ferise1 I remember even as a child I thought teachers were a bit bizarre and now even more so. They just acted so strangely. I dont know any adults in my workplace now that behave like that.

I think if I met them now I would probably dismiss them completely.
