What are the advantages and disadvantages of hiding your age range on SW?

Well if one is hiding their age range, what else might they be hiding. A PROPENSITY FOR MURDER!?

I don't really hide it. If asked, I say I'm 73. But putting it there on my profile, I find that there are a lot of people who make assumptions about us.

So many think, you're a kid, you're not worth hearing. You're old, you must be grumpy and rude. I'm sure there are assumptions made about all demographics, but those are the two I notice most.

I've known you for a while and I can safely say you're trustable...I just sometimes find it hard to determine how to act around some people who hide their age ranges so I tend to not really talk to them..I could be talking to a 11 year old for all I know.

@Ballisticboy: I used to have my age range posted, but discovered that I was being judged. Sad, really. When I took it off, people paying attention to what I was saying, not to the fact that I am an old person saying things. Some figure I can't possibly know anything relevant because I'm too old. Or they assume, if I am giving a negative opinion, it's because I'm a rude old grouch who just wants to criticize. Now. I'm just another member.

The advantage is fewer cheap shots by the ageists here when they disagree with one's posts and have to resort to personal attacks. No disadvantages for me really, because I'm not here to date anyone, so I'm not trying to deceive. My friends here know I'm in my 50s. 👵🏽👴🏼
