what constitutes a "top" reply in a user's post?

if i read the replies to someone's post (let's say there are 20 replies) and the top reply has 1 reaction yet i'll scroll down to almost the bottom and someone will have 10 reactions....
Top | New | Old

I thought that they appeared in reverse time order? So the latest at the end. Is that not correct?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@beermeplease That IS confusing.
@FreddieUK what is confusing...my reply to you or the fact that a "top" reply isn't really a top reply?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@beermeplease Not your reply as such, but your observation about the order in which replies appear.
Do you mean a 'best comment ' thing ?
GoFish · 41-45, F
huh? is that a new thing?
@MarineBob i asked ai..... On Similar Worlds, selecting TOP sorting orders the replies under a post based on engagement and positive community feedback rather than chronological time.

Key Ranking Factors

Reactions & Likes: Replies with the highest number of heart reactions (likes) and emoji reactions move toward the top.

Replies & Threaded Activity: Comments that generate follow-up discussions or nested replies get boosted higher up the list.

Author Interactions: If the original poster (OP) reacts to or replies back to a specific comment, it often receives higher priority in the "Top" sorting algorithms.

In contrast, switching the filter to NEW shows the latest comments first (chronological order), while OLD shows the comments starting from the beginning when the post was first created.
