No, it shows only when you’re signed in. I don’t see you online all the time.

And also while I was switching over to this account from deathfairy, I wasn’t showing online on it when I was posting on this account because I could see that account green dot off.

I just switched like a month ago.. So I’m pretty sure they fixed that.

I think it stays on for a some time after you last clicked a link. I'm not sure about the exact duration, but it's long enough to show you online while writing a long post without switching pages, but short enough not to show you online all night if you put your phone away without explicitly logging out. Maybe half an hour to an hour since your last click, something like that.
