I wish there was a way that when in conversations you could share location just large city or state so if some one is talking to you about a get together you know they are at least in the same area

With the prevalence of catfish out there scamming people left and right, I don't think is such a bad idea.

The problem is that when you piece together their location with other facts you may know about them - like their occupation, their field of study, their relative distance from certain places, maybe their children's age - it becomes easier to stalk and track people down. It's inviting trouble that may end badly.

I think there should always be some level of privacy when you don't know someone's intentions or mindset in order to protect their well-being. You should always start with the assumption that you never know who you're dealing with online

@TinyViolins that's why it would be something that would not be automatic. The person would have to voluntarily share their location such as if they were meeting for dinner the next day. Just to make sure someone wasn't being catfished to a restaurant that nobody would show up to

@dale74 Yeah, that's a bit better. Scams are getting out of hand these days and something like this would go a long way towards confirming who you're dealing with. At least make it a lot less profitable to be a catfish these days.

@TinyViolins even if it is so general as it just tells you what state they are located in
