HOW-TO: Changing your post's "Visibility"

I've noticed people posting things as Publicly visible which might more properly be posted to a more select audience. This can help a lot, if you have

• online stalkers whom you block, but they come at you from an "alt";

• people complaining about your posts.

Since a lot of users might be unfamiliar with this, I'm offering this quick guide.

A) If you are CREATING a NEW post
This is the best way to set the visibility, because there's a point in the post creation prompts where you can do so. For this post, it's at this point:

[image/video deleted]

B) If you've ALREADY created a post
For an EXISTING post, the re-setting of the visibility isn't too hard.

1) Go to the post.

2) Select edit mode. As creator, look for the pencil icon in the upper right-hand corner:

[image/video deleted]

Click on the pencil.

3) You'll now see an edit menu:

[image/video deleted]

As indicated, click on "Edit Visibility".

4) You'll now see the visibility options:

[image/video deleted]

For maximum control, select "Private". This limits your post to those whom YOU follow. If you have people you've blocked coming back to follow you from alt accounts, this is the only way to handle the issue.

[NOTE: There are warnings about changing the visibility of posts. If you try to make a post MORE visible, you can have problems.

If you truly wanted that, you could copy the old post's info, make a new post, and delete the old.]

So true... and I have a feeling you look upon the 'image' feed. I see things put up and then taken down, I presume from what they felt unwanted attention.....

not going to slice and dice if they wanted attention like another poster might want to assume...

Hm I don't want to spoil it to you but could be that they'd want it public ... 😉

@SomeMichGuy but that's a point that makes SW distinctive ...
I don't say that the information you are sharing isn't important..on the contrary

But mmm
I don't know okay ?

Even I, for myself wonder if I should share or not many times.
But really what makes this place special is this ability to share publicly things that usually aren't...

Then again it's 2024 and perhaps we're over that, meaning, there's everything on the internet nowadays. Hm..
@SW-User ...so would you write to the publishers of a baseball encyclopædia and wonder why they don't cover all games with balls?

Your point is correct but tangential to the purpose of this post.

@SomeMichGuy my point is that
people posting things as Publicly visible which might more properly be posted to a more select audience
has been something troubling me and others here, when it comes to self expression, and I'm still not finding the proper balance to stand, that's why my comments.

Because it's somewhat hard to do, to expose yourself whilst expressing. To exhibit. To stay open. To allow others to relate..
All these, if living a more private life, aren't possible.
