Sometimes but its still special listening to my grandpas stories all the same
Reason memories frm 20 years ago all seem to fade is because you were like, two years old back then.

I find that some events from long ago have been forgotten, and if someone reminds me, I have to think about it before I remember it. Others though, are vividly in my mind and I can recount all of the event in great detail. I imagine some if the details are embellished over the years, but I can recall many events from my teens as if they happened last week.

That's true. I wrote down some of my memories from high school days and shared them with those who were involved. In some cases, their memories were quite different. It is likely that both of us were wrong.

@SW-User that's not a personal story....simply history

Reminisce? I have a hard enough time trying to remember what I did yesterday, let alone 20 years ago.

I be definitely agree. At my age, I no men who have told me about an experience they had and it is an experience which I had and told a mutual acquaintance.
This has happened three times.

Some things stay with you. I can remember some things from when I was around 3, and that was about 55 years ago.
allygator18 · 22-25, F
@robb65 Right...but are they real, and did they happen...things may stay with you and linger, and sometimes you think, did they happen....the way you think

@allygator18 Some things are clear. Some details not so much. My oldest sister was born when I was about 3, I can remember before she was born and when she came home from the hospital.
My dad's mother died before I was born and my grandfather remarried when I was really young (can't remember him not being married). I can't place the exact date but that seems to have been when I was around 3. I remember the reception and my dad's youngest stepsister being there and trying to keep me entertained. I must have already known her but can't remember anything definite before the wedding. There was a depression in my grandfathers front yard where an old well had been filled in, I remember me and her playing in that depression but it could have been a year or two later (still over 50 years ago). I can't remember for sure if the wedding was before or after my sister was born I think before, so I may not have been 3.
Shortly before I turned 4 there was a bad wreck in front of our house. I'm certain about the timing because one of the cars involved was fleeing from Hurricane Camille (August 1969). Six people died in that crash, one or two burnt to death. I remember my dad and some other men using my toy wagon and a metal tub to haul sand from our back yard to try to put out the fire. It troubled my dad for many years and occasionally he would bring it up.
I remember my dad taking me squirrel hunting, mom went along to keep me quiet and we sat on a log on a sandy hillside overlooking a branch. I must have been about 4 because we moved when I was about 5. That would have been about 54 years ago and I could take you to that hillside and probably find the spot to within a hundred yards or so. I probably remember it so vividly because I made many trips through those woods with my dad after that. It's completely changed now and those old oak trees are long gone.
My timeline is fuzzy here because I started 1st grade in Florida but we lived somewhere else for a few months before moving to Florida. Back then school started in September and the cut off point was different, so I was in school a week or two before I turned 6. I can't work out how long between the time we left here and the time we actually moved to Florida. As near as I can figure we left here sometime in (late?) '69 and were back sometime in '72 (after school had already started).

Yes, some memories do fade.
But some others are as vivid as they were the day they were made🤗
