what is going on with similar worlds

i do not know what the problem is but you see lots of people taking breaks from similar world and a few have been saying there good for personal reasons i assume . it is becoming a worrying trend and i am just a bit alarmed this is not going like experience project and similar worlds is dying a slow death personally that would be a tragedy

It may be people finding they need a different kind of connection. Half of the time I only see memes, trolling politics, and while I have a liberal mind, sex posts. The topics just become empty and leaving many things left to be desired. When people see nothing they want to engage with, they leave.

Hi @smiler2012,

Although we haven't spoken much we have crossed paths and had a few conversations on posts.

So I personally can say the excitement of moving from ep to sw wore off when all the spammers started, during the lockdown all the hate surrounding blm and again with trump and politics.

I feel like the filtering system isn't that great and surprisingly some "friends" opinions were so far removed from who I thought they were.

Consequently those that have been real friends really encouraged me to live. And after my counselling I really took some steps to try and forge a life away from the app.

I have since found a better job, with kind colleagues. I am dating someone and our families get on although nothing is perfect we are working towards a future which is all I've ever wanted.
That includes my recent news of baby due at the end of the year.

I visit but I try not to visit too often, the consequences of doing so is actually boredom and my mental health decline.

There are some really unusual characters here and for whatever their reasons they can be quite relentless.

I hope that the good community maintains some form of communication.
As I wouldn't be where I am today without those good people.

I'm on and off here, only spending a bit of time in increments ha ha .... that seems to work for me.
I couldn't be on here for hours at at a time. 😬
Wiseacre · F
Many people on here have other lives like me. I'm a busy person and come here when time allows.
Stefanv · 56-60, M
Yes most of my friends on here are very infrequent and hardly ever message me now!!😩
Samek · 36-40, M
I'm new here, 1 week as of tomorrow, but I try my best to write engaging posts. That being said, it's normal for humans to drift in and out like the ocean. Cherish the memories. <3
twiigss · M
@Samek Yes I think your posts and replies are engaging

@twiigss Thank you :)

Real life for many is a mess of disconnections.

It can also get pretty messy in the online world as random strangers are venting so much negativity.
It’s just not the same in terms of the interactions and connections with others.

It ebbs and flows I've been here on and off for quite a while I see a lot of people are gone that I knew but a lot of them have stayed around as well so it just kind of depends I think people come and go. But being as this is about the only site like this out here I don't see it being totally dead anytime soon
helenS · 36-40, F
It's an online site – people come and people go. Is it any different in real life?

I still feel SW is one if the more colorful sites, with a variety of opinions on everything from sex, drugs and rock'n'roll to relativistic astrophysics. 👍🏽

I predict it would be hard for you to find anything superior…
One of my friends here also left. 😔

Taking a break from here is absolutely necessary from time to time to keep the equilibrium in real life. What I do notice on SW is that there are very few original, thought out posts which were the embodiment of EP. A few original EP veterans came over but I think more than half didn't.

Also, other social media apps has taken over since then and is now all about selfies, video's and the instant gratification of as much quantity as possible, as quickly as possible which overshadows the controlled anonymity that SW offers and let's not forget that anonymity also brings out the worst in some people.
amethyst1 · 36-40, F
Think thats the first time I've seen someone post on how they appreciate SW for what it is. Most, especially in the past used to just harp back to EP (I know you mention it).

I have seen some people say this, or just disappear, but also this seems to have been happening since the start.

The people who make and update this site have some unique takes and ideas and have obviously put/still put a lot of work in.

I dont always find the posts from users that pleasing/insightful though.

I've lost lots of friends since 2016..as someone else mentioned my inbox is empty where previously it was full.Ngl the algorithm doesn't help

The number of new toxic people and trolls has risen.

I hope to see a Smiler's smileys joke soon man Keep the faith Aloha✌️

It's not compulsory to come to SW every day is it? I regard it a bit as I do my local pub - I go when I feel like it and rarely on Saturdays. And EP didn't die, it was closed by its organisers ostensibly for legal reasons.
People change, their lives change and people leave permanently or temporarily which in turn affects their relationships with others on here. Conversely, new people join that may or may not resonate with existing people here - therefore causing a lack of similarity and familiarity. Atleast that's my interpretation of it. 🤔

Everything has a lifespan. No matter how big it is, nothing is too big to fail. Maybe we are slowly seeing the end of it, maybe not yet.
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
There are less and less posts here. Not many active users, I think your observations are legitimate.
I tried to leave once and the internet police came and stole my underwear.
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
what's going on with shipping?
Bumbles · 51-55, M
I suppose it depends what you use this site for.
I made an analysis of that a while ago: https://similarworlds.com/social/sw-suggestions/5055203-People-spending-little-time-on-here-the-causes-possible

My reply can’t be empty.

Been watching the posts and things have definitely gone quiet here. The political posts are overwhelming which might put a lot of people off. I'm so glad to see you

@MaryDreamilton What is your definition of a troll?
MaryDreamilton · 46-50, F
@MartinII Someone who deliberately posts something offensive with the intention of upsetting people. That is the actual definition of a troll, isn't it? I had one troll posting borderline racist comments on one of my posts recently. I blocked her and she's staying blocked.
MartinII · 70-79, M
@MaryDreamilton Thank you. I have asked this question of many people here, and you are the first who has given me a proper answer.
