Why do many people lie when asked to donate at the checkout line? A guy in front of me today said: "I donated online" 🙄. What do YOU usually say?

I'm a toxic positive internet do-gooder and my reputation is at stake, so I'll SAY I always donate.
I tell a lie even though I know that everyone knows it's a lie.
I usually donate my change rounded up to the nearest dollar.
If I can't afford to, or don't like the charity, I'm honest and say no.
If I can afford to and I like the worthy cause, I donate.
I donate online.

Yeah, I know IT DEPENDS. Everything depends on something, that's a given. So please don't try to sound deep, complicated, and analytical by saying "it depends".
In general, if you don't wish to donate for whatever reason, do you tell a fib or are you honest and simply say something like "no, not today? Why lie?

"No, thank you" is what i say. Sometimes i round up but usually i prefer to donate online so i know the organization better

I used to work in service and people say a lot of things instead of no all the time. Like on our first day of asking for donations they says "i did yesterday". They'll say they donate online or they did already. Regardless of how true it is, they feel bad for not wanting to donate or not being able to afford to and they justify it. I feel guilty for saying no too. But i hate talking to people so i don't want to share any extra or irrelevant info lol
@TeamSkullGrunt This guy in front of me just happened to donate online to the very same charity that the cashier mentioned. lol
