When you join sites, like SW, do you have rules for yourself that you try to live by?

For example, I don't block people and I don't delete comments on my post, I don't care how vulgar or inappropriate they are. I also don't or at least try not to, resort to personal attacks on people. I have been blocked by about five users and have had several comments deleted, simply for voicing my opinion! To me, that is being a coward. I know I can be a little sarcastic and have humor people don't "get" but I've never been mean spirited or vulgar. Another rule I have is, I will delete your comments if you delete mine! I think that is fair. Do you have rules for yourself?

I try to make people smile, feel understood, be helpful, not give in to my sometimes negative tendencies and refrain from butting in when I see them in others. Not my business, not my job. General rule of thumb- if I’m not having fun, that’s a red flag and time for some course correction.

@OlderSometimesWiser I actually try not to give opinions on questions I know will probably lead to an argument but sometimes it's hard! When it comes to situations like that, I will only comment if I know I'm 100% right.
@WizardofOz Oh yes, I agree, it can be very hard! And I don’t always succeed at keeping my yap shut. But I’m getting better at having a little talk with myself before partaking in what is usually fruitless internet arguing.

@OlderSometimesWiser Damn! You and I are a lot alike lol I actually talk to myself about it! "Is it even worth it? I know it's just gonna tailspin into a non-stop argument, do I really need that in my life"? Then, I'll even go back to the question a few times and give myself the pep talk all over again!
