I just noticed we no longer see downvotes given to us unless we have VIP....

Really? A world of downvotes and reputation wrecking and it's okay with you all?
Is it really true "out of sight, out of mind"?

If they are hidden, then what’s the point of having it. This makes no sense.

@Carissimi How do you think the ones giving down votes feel as they give them and know you have no clue? On another site, that was a way to ruin reputations...hide people's post because they became unpopular and didn't even realize it. This site is SO much like that in how it's set up... except now...they will let you see if you pay for VIP and only if another VIP doesn't hide it from you.
Games. That's all it is here.
@Carissimi it still helps to improve your own feed, which is what the only purpose was from the beginning. Recipients getting upset over it and people playing into that was never part of the plan.
SW-User
@NerdyPotato How does it improve your own feed? Mine has been screwed up and giving me content I have no use for.
@SW-User when you downvote something because you don't like, you'll see less of similar content in the future.
SW-User
@NerdyPotato Yep...including hating on people and their posts becoming less.
I don't want to down vote something unless I consider it unacceptable to be on a site.

They need to leave my feed alone. I downvote a concept, a post, not a person. I might still want to see their posts. I have a block button to hide them from my feed. @NerdyPotato
@SW-User that's your right of course. Tweaking your feed through downvoting, muting, blocking, following and moving the setting sliders is entirely optional.
@Carissimi that's exactly where the downvote comes in. Blocking removes everything from a person from your feed. Downvoting removes similar posts, so about a topic or concept.

@NerdyPotato down voting never should have been an option.
@SW-User it should never have been shown to people unaffected by it, that's for sure.
SW-User
@NerdyPotato What does that matter? I don't care who sees I've been down voted but I sure do care that it happens at all.
@SW-User why do you care how other people organize their feed? If you weren't be able to see that someone downvoted you, nothing would change for you and if you don't want to hide any content, you could simply not use it. But why would you object to something others do that only affects themselves?
SW-User
@NerdyPotato Downvotes don't show in a feed. They show on a topic/post.
I don't give a thought to how others organize their feeds. I'm telling you how it is with mine. A mess!
So, ignorance is bliss? Kind of like being cheated on and not knowing it? Ha!!
Just cuz you don't know it, doesn't mean it's alright.
@SW-User yes, they show on posts, but they only affect the feed of the person handing them out, other than feelings caused by seeing them. If you couldn't see them, there would be no way to notice because a downvote changes literally nothing for you. So why should it then never have been added if others do appreciate the control over their feed?
SW-User
@NerdyPotato I'm sorry but I think you should have been a politician. You just tried to get me to believe the down vote does nothing but was put on here for ..... controlling a feed?
@SW-User that is indeed the only thing it does. Therefore I don't understand why they decided to show it. The displaying is the only thing that made it affect everyone and what other effect than a negative one could that have been? That was a gross judgment error in my opinion. But other than that, it does indeed do absolutely nothing except for the person handing them out

@NerdyPotato You can control the feed 100% better going to the top of the page in the post flag all the 'downvote tools' are there to socially distance yourself from someone you don't want to see.

No I'm not talking about just mute and block, I'm talking about the actual downvote tools 'see less of this user' and 'mute this post' that's all the downvote ever did anyway.

Only difference is your not shitting on someone elses work if you don't like something and it ain't flagable don't f%king touch it go do something else positive, it upsets people and they stop posting.🤷

@NerdyPotato I don't agree. Down votes serve a purpose or they wouldn't be added to a site.
I'm going to bed now and soon enough it won't matter to me at all.
Goodnight.
@AdaXI seeing less of a user again affects all posts of that user and muting a post only works on that particular one. Downvoting is different from those because it applies to a topic, style, opinion, etc.

@SW-User that's only because people get upset about seeing that icon. I just laugh when someone downvotes me, knowing it doesn't affect me and therefore nobody can use it against me. I do understand that others feel different though and don't get why the admins created the possiblity for people to get upset, and thereby allowing others to weaponize those emotions when seeing downvotes has no apparent purpose. The display has no upside and I wonder why that ever got added in the first place, but the feature itself can be useful for some people.

Anyway, sleep well and I'm sorry you're leaving over not everyone liking everything you post, but I respect your choice of course.

@NerdyPotato No downvote only effect's how much you see that specific user and mutes the post, look even if you were correct specific topics can be muted in the flag area like I say ALL the tools are there. I really don't see why you'd lump a whole range of effects into one tool when you can use each individual effect far more precisely to tailor your feed elsewhere and not go upsetting people at the same time.

I don't know maybe that's just me, maybe I like being able to know exactly what I am doing to my feed not just one size fits all I also don't like anonymously victimising people so they don't post or leave. I also like know I can reverse an effect if required.

And if you don't believe fine, you do what you want have a good day x x x

@AdaXI hmm, I don't see anything about a topic in that menu. Only that specific post and the user. 🤔 And we agree on the upsetting people, but that wouldn't ever have happened if you couldn't ever see them. That's the effect of the displaying, not because of the downvoting itself. But you have a good day too.

Someone just downvoted my post, and I’m not VIP, so you can see them. @SW-User
AdaXI · T
@NerdyPotato I just looked and my apologies I will concede I got that bit wrong. I mean muting a topic does exist I ain't lying to you about that, but granted it's in the 'blocked Users' area. The flag has 'block user' which directly blocks rather opening up the whole block mute area where the mute topics actually is. I still don't believe topics are directly affected by the downvote though, so it makes sense why it isn't located there to me personally...

Look I know people have strong views about the downvote and people fall over it all the time but at the end of the day I don't really mean to get annoyed or p!ssed off about it, doesn't change a great deal arguing over it, it is what it is love x x x
