Why do people misuse the word "dude" on SW?

Not for the first time I've had some troll call me "dude" and I've seen it being applied to other women on SW as well. Why, when the Oxford English Dictionary doesn't list it as a gender-neutral word? Why do people use a word like that inappropriately on this site?

@Moodswings Well, that is basically the correct usage. But, do you fling the term recklessly? Do you end up calling anyone and everyone who posts something you don't like or posts things they believe in that don't match your own beliefs a troll? If so, that's misuse. If not, then okay...

@Moodswings If you are doing what you describe, then good news... you will be cleared of all charges. Many times though, people imply they are innocent and turn out to be guilty of what they claim they are not doing. In that case, you would be formally brought up on charges.
