Do you think it is ok to give advice on SW when people ask questions?

Sometimes people say thanks and it was good advice and sometimes people say who do you think you are giving advice? I mean no offence but surely if people ask questions then the point of SW is to give your opinion and it can be discarded or taken on board? I just wonder if maybe you re not really meant to say anything serious here?

I think if people ask the question then get butt hurt if you answer that's on them. Answer the way you see fit and if they don't like it oh well :)

here a recent example where I touched a nerve!

Not sure I even understood to or where the negative energy was coming from. Do not want to dismiss a genuine point from which I should learn and change though.

There's no rule that I know of that says that..if a person asked a question I assume he/she wants an answer if the person doesn't want any serious advise or vica versa should warn in the question.
Usual they get angry i think because they don't like the answer they're given for some reason

I appreciate constructive criticism, thoughtful advice and input based on information, even if I don't reply to it.

There are times when I just want to vent but I make that clear beforehand

I answer, they are free to take it as they like. Sometimes with humor, sometimes serious. Remember most advice is worth about what you paid for it. I TRY to not take myself too seriously.

I am old enough to not to care so much maybe. I also think if I have something I think I can contribute to a genuine question then why not offer it?
