Once you are awared of you being overprotective...you can take action. I'm sure it doesn't matter if it's a girl or a boy but I know what you mean. My father was overprotective with my sister and me. But he also was with my brother, although not in such a grade.
Surely, you are a very affectionable person and this is very good to grow up a kid. A kid learn mainly with affection and care. Feeling safe. And little by little, even when it hurst letting him being him and doing his own mistakes.
