Ever had a fun time chat with one of those flat earthers?

You know, the ones that think the earth is flat.

Had a hoot with it the other day. Got bored eventually though. They run out of answers pretty quick.

@Xuan12: Then there are those who think the earth is hollow.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: Had one telling me the other day that all the appearance of any celestial object rising or setting on the horizon is just an optical illusion.
Allelse · 36-40, M
@Xuan12: Probably a trick of the devil!!!
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: Apparently whenever two parallel objects are at great distance, they appear to pass one another. I mean, I know they look closer and closer together the farther away they are, but to actually pass one another? Not to mention that if the sun is just spiraling 3000 miles overhead again and again, shouldn't appear biggest when it's directly overhead, and smaller as it's disappearing? But in fact this doesn't happen. And if it's just a perspective trick, wouldn't looking through some binoculars or a telescope at the sunset make it suddenly appear higher again? Eh...I'll stop. It was just a rain of questions and him telling me that I'm too stupid and not thinking.

And that you have your head in the sand?
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: Yup. Giant ice wall conspiracy, hollow moon, etc, etc.
Allelse · 36-40, M
@Xuan12: What's the giant ice wall?
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: Flat Earth conspiracy theory, "They" (I assume governments), built antarctica as a giant ice wall around the world we know, in order to keep people from going further in any direction. Why is one big question, which was never answered, but I assume it's to secure the material wealth for themselves I guess? Also, why did they have to build it? If the sun is on a distinct spiral path ontop of the known world, then that means it never gets out beyond the known world, there's no sunlight out there. It would be abysmally cold all the time anyway, the ice wall would be natural. Nobody would have to build it. But meh, there I go not thinking about things again.

I love how people think that any government on the planet would be able to not only hatch such a scheme but be able to go through with it! I mean they have trouble enough just implementing universal healthcare or a nationwide broadband network. How the hell can these nutters ever envision these same people!! Getting their act together enough to go around building great big ice walls.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: With what too? A giant freezer with the door open?
Allelse · 36-40, M
You notice you never see these idiots out with their boat trying to prove their theory.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: I think, for the true believers, there's a certain subconscious dread of actually trying to prove it, because something in their intuition knows it's wrong.
Allelse · 36-40, M
@Xuan12: Its like this Islamic nutter. Always going on about how he was picked on for his religion and oh you know, there's no tolerance. All the while preaching that women are second class citizens and that the earth is flat and that criticising the Quran is WRONG!!! Then he goes to one of those Islamic countries and is all "Its so great to be able to practise my faith in such a tolerant environment!". I mean that's a level of crazy that cant even be made up in a book.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
@Allelse: I haven't even heard of that guy.
