What happens if one drinks bleach?

When my dad died my mum had a break down, I was 14 my mum drank bleach the amount I don't know but it did irreparable damage she couldnt talk for 3 weeks then when she could talk she was croaky and struggled to pronounce words.
Please don't even think about it.
