Can being way too nice and passive cause you to lose friends?

That's what has been happening to me. My friends say if I can't be honest with my feelings and keep sugarcoating and agreeing to protect our feels then we shouldn't be friends. How can they say that? It seems like mean people have more friends than nice passive people.

idk about friends but bf maybe ? my bf was super nice to everyone that includes girls so while it may not of been his fault they started liking him they were boldly trying to ruin our relationship which made us argue more so.... basically yea it could be kinda bad for relationships just know what ya doin.
