If you depend for the government for food, should you be banned from buying cigarettes and beer?

If you've contributed to the coffers through your taxes then you've every right to spend your money on some small pleasures, so long as you feed the kids and pay the bills first.

@LukeOnTheBrightSide: As I have no kids, can I get extra ciggies and booze?
@wetncthru: have you paid the bills first?
wetncthru · F
Of course.
@wetncthru: then go ahead and spend the rest as you please.

@LukeOnTheBrightSide: I'm not talking about people who need a hand who have fallen on hard times. I'm talking about lifelong welfare recipients. In talking about the woman in front of me in the store today who used her ebt card to buy 6 candy bars and paid for her beer and cigs from a fat wad of cash.
@kingfish2: your question made no distinction between contributors and non-contributors. Also
1. How do you know the personal circumstances of the woman in a queue?
2. Is it ok to buy a chocolate bar or coffee as they are also non essential like beer and cigs?

@LukeOnTheBrightSide: Are you a taxpayer?
Yes I am. Why won't you answer my questions?

@LukeOnTheBrightSide: No distinction needs to be made, if you can't afford to feed yourself and your family, you shouldn't be buying things you don't need with whatever money you've earned. This is very simple reasoning.
First you said you're not talking about the people on hard times but now you say you're not making any distinction between contributors and non contributors; so which is it? I think it's utterly ridiculous that you think a person shouldn't buy so much as a chocolate bar if they receive welfare. And if you lost your job tomorrow would you think such harshness is really fair or viable?

@LukeOnTheBrightSide: I don't care what you think, you are a sheep. There's no use trying to reason with you.
@kingfish2: oh, run out of argument. Or does the name calling come in even when you have some argument left?

@LukeOnTheBrightSide: I'm sorry if there is some confusion here, but let me clarify. I can understand people needing help, I'm familiar with that, and I support helping people who have contributed to society. There are many who live on the tit of the government from womb to tomb. Anyone who has to rely on others to feed themselves should have the dignity to not spend their money on frivolous things.
