No. Schools were better in my time.

@lastbabyboomer: Well I mean the school I went to at that time had the second most fights, the lowest percentage of students who actually graduate, and basically was really poor and old and even good students got stuck going there because we were zoned there because we all came from either bad neighborhoods or lived on the out skirts of bad neighborhoods.
Though from what I understand since my time there, the school was been recently knocked down and rebuilt, they now kick out all students who have less than a 2.0 by the end of 10th grade, they enforce really strict rules and dress code now, and in the last 4 years school has gone from being the worst school in the district to being the only A school in the district. So I mean at least things are good now, but yeah it was a pretty bad school to go to where I was there.

@NaturallyPeculiar: They should have done that sooner. When I taught High School in the inner city we were only allowed to fail 2 students per semester. It should have been a third of them. Does the kids no good to keep promoting the failures.

@lastbabyboomer: I think the worse part is that most teachers stopped caring and basically had a "teach yourself" attitude just because of the bad students who never did anything or anyways caused trouble, so a lot of students who actually needed extra help and weren't good at having to teach themselves did suffer the most. It was really sad to see. The slow learns dropped out or either got to "graduate" with their class but didn't actually receive a diploma, while the bad kids passed with D averages.
