Surely it must be false ... Right ?

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Might be a bit daft.
BUT, at least the homeless guy is going to have somewhere warm and dry to sleep at nights. Three square meals a day. Medical care. Access to library and possible education. TV. Radio. Clean laundry.
We have a similar argument in England.
Pensioners are so hard up some eat every other day. Don't put their heating on. Maybe don't see another soul for days !
Our doctors are so hard pushed pensioners would be lucky to see one within a week !
Yet crooks get free bed and board; socializing with fellow inmates; earn a small wage for doing little; free access to doctors and education etc.
Something is severely fucked up in the world !

@Pureblossom: I'm a sociologist. Qualified. I track and watch human and economic trends with interest.
It always fascinated me how America seems to build ever bigger prisons without ever attacking the cause of whatever it is that causes so many to re-offend and subsequently go back to jail.
I read a report by an American sociologist recently, who believes that America builds prisons like the Brits. used to build Workhouses, back in the 18th century.
Because it's the cheapest way of 'looking after the poor' in the southern states !
That's a shocking indictment on the 'Land of the free !"
@Picklebobble2: More prisons than colleges, PickleB. Sad, but true.

@bijouxbroussard: Far less exclusive, too !
Something is seriously wrong in the world.

It's the American Way!

It doesn't sound false to me...this is the USA, aka Babylon from Revelations in the bible. It's a very unholy wicked place that shows favor to the rich and persecutes the poor.

If it is in the United States, it could be true. We are a fucked up country.

I'm not saying that there isn't sometimes disparity in how justice is meted out. I'm suggesting that facts can be easily distorted to give false impression. This is probably a case of the latter: intended to incite racial unrest.
It's possible, with the legal systems that currently exist. Depends on the state's laws as well as the legal defense available to the person being charged.

@bijouxbroussard: his legal defense , state law ?

You would think no matter what raping ESPECIALLY your THREE year old daughter would get you a long time in prison . I guess not .
@Pureblossom: Imagine the child rapist pleads guilty, has a really good lawyer, makes a deal to get "treatment", and gives up his parental rights. Chances are he would still have to register as a sex offender, but if he's never been accused of any other sexual offenses (as horrible as this one is), he could conceivably get parole.

The homeless man, if he lives in a "three strikes" state, has ever been in trouble before (even non-violent offenses) and is being defended by an overworked public defender (for instance) could really end up having "the book" thrown at him by a prosecutor trying to make an example for the "Law and Order" lobby.
