Is it true that people who cheat actually still do love their spouses?

If they do, they have a warped definition of love.

I think that cheating is an indication of no respect for the partner, or even themselves. And certainly none for the one they are using on the side.

Some do, some don't

I read somewhere that men often cheat in an effort to save their relationship - e.g. there's something more that they want and aren't getting so they look to add that and maintain the relationship at the same time (a getting and eating your cake, if you will), but that for women it's usually a strong indication that they're done, given up, had enough.

For some yes, others no. But yes you can still screw someone else but love your partner. Might not end well obviously but it's a real thing

I am not a cheater so I can't really answer that, but that seems like just a cop out for the cheater to say but I only love you that person didn't mean anything blah blah BS

if they are men ,yes. Women when they cheat is because they don't give a damn to anything anymore. Men cheat cause they are weak and can't control their penises regardless if they love the wife or not. That is a generalization okay, but Yeah.
