How to reconcile with Queen Elizabeth II, and the monarchy.

I come from Canada, and the Queen is Queen of Canada as much as she is Queen of the U.K.

I like her a lot. I like that she is there, and I like seeing and reading about them. I think the Queen has never done anything to embarrass the Crown.

But......
And it's a big but......

I am not religious
And the Queen and royal family have historically claimed their right to rule as Gods will. As I am not religious, this sounds kind of ridiculous.

So as much as I like them, the dichotomy for me is....what right do they have to remain on the throne? While at the same time I want them there, and I am glad they are. But, I am also glad it is they, and not I, serving.

Is being magazine filler enough?
As society becomes ever more secular, will the desire to support a Monarchy diminish?

The answer is maybe!? The Royal may still be popular abroad but in her own country they are becoming irrelevant.
The only way for them to become relevant is through bringing in the younger generation. There have been calls for William to replace the queen directly.
As it being God's will for them to rule, that's something I've not heard before. The only reason they rule is because of succession and the various wars that have put them in the position to succeed.

Errrrrrrr, their rule is called the divine right of Kings.
Royal families the world over, and nations with royal families are groomed to believe that God has pre ordained this specific family to govern as Royals.

This is factual. You can look it up

Yeah, the God thing is true unfortunately.

@CassandraFemale17: that statement was meant to elevate them above the "common folk" to justify their rule. They became kings or dukes or ... because they had the best fighters.
