How to reconcile with Queen Elizabeth II, and the monarchy.

I come from Canada, and the Queen is Queen of Canada as much as she is Queen of the U.K.

I like her a lot. I like that she is there, and I like seeing and reading about them. I think the Queen has never done anything to embarrass the Crown.

But......
And it's a big but......

I am not religious
And the Queen and royal family have historically claimed their right to rule as Gods will. As I am not religious, this sounds kind of ridiculous.

So as much as I like them, the dichotomy for me is....what right do they have to remain on the throne? While at the same time I want them there, and I am glad they are. But, I am also glad it is they, and not I, serving.

Is being magazine filler enough?
As society becomes ever more secular, will the desire to support a Monarchy diminish?

The answer is maybe!? The Royal may still be popular abroad but in her own country they are becoming irrelevant.
The only way for them to become relevant is through bringing in the younger generation. There have been calls for William to replace the queen directly.
As it being God's will for them to rule, that's something I've not heard before. The only reason they rule is because of succession and the various wars that have put them in the position to succeed.

Errrrrrrr, their rule is called the divine right of Kings.
Royal families the world over, and nations with royal families are groomed to believe that God has pre ordained this specific family to govern as Royals.

This is factual. You can look it up

Yeah, the God thing is true unfortunately.

@CassandraFemale17: that statement was meant to elevate them above the "common folk" to justify their rule. They became kings or dukes or ... because they had the best fighters.

The Queen is basically the 'pope' of the church of England, not a god , but god's representative on earth.
I am a none believer, but when I joined the Canadian Forces I swore allegiance to the Queen and so far she hasn't gotten around to releasing me from that oath so I do support the royal family.

I support her too. I'm glad she is Queen of Canada. I like her.

But the juxtaposition re religion is an interesting one. Especially as that is exactly the basis for that one family holding on to the Crown for centuries.

They haven't been deposed because their reign is 'sanctioned' if not 'preordained' by God.

But as society is becoming rapidly more secular, fewer and fewer people are left with a God of any kind.

But all the pomp and ceremony when they parade is just amazing, I love it. She mat be simply a tradition, but we need to keep some traditions alive.

Oh my. I can't stand to even hear about Kardashians.
WorldlyWoes · 36-40, M
They don't do anything except send letters to 100 year olds and help get dodgy legislation passed.. They're mostly for show while they sit around with their paedophile friends eating fresh peasants.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
Hahahahahahahahahaha

Either this was intentional or the best mistype ever!!!!!!!

Peasants, pheasants....what's the difference?
Love it
WorldlyWoes · 36-40, M
