What are your thoughts on military drafts?

"Forcing men and women to literally risk their lives against their will, often for a cause in which they do not believe, is an infringement on personal liberty and one of the potential doorways to tyranny."

Hasn't there been draft registration since 1980 though?

I don't remember for sure when that started but as far a I know it's still in effect.

@katielass: I think it's 18-25 year old males only, but you have to register.

@katielass: no it ended in 1973 and started in 1940

@MarineBob: Sorry, I meant the requirement to register. I don't recall exactly when that started. Correct me if I'm wrong but when the draft ended in 73 you didn't have to register but later on they started the register requirement. Is that right?

@katielass: yes

@MarineBob: OK thanks.

Btw, it's easy for me, or anyone else, to sit here and say how we feel about the draft or war but the simple truth I understand is that freedom isn't free.
Someone has to pay the price for that and I'm damn thankful for every single person who has served whether he volunteered or not.
