What are your thoughts on censorship on social media?

I'm starting to see a trend on most media sites, censoring and deleting comments. I have a been a victim of this trend, most of my comments are either deleted or the site block me altogether.
Years ago there existed a thing called "The Fourth Estate". This was a way to keep people informed and hold those in power to account. News was presented in a non-political way.
Alas as economic playing field of the world was slowing being corrupted by laws that protected companies from democracy, having hard hitting stories around this bias and corruption could no longer be tolerated and so the world's elite started buying up media outlets so they could put their own spin on news and so keep people in ignorance.

We need to start asking ourselves, where are our freedom of speech.

Are we being censored? Well, you said it, and I haven't seen it, but I believe you anyway. I'm not American but from what I gathered, freedom of speech was given up some time late in 2001, or shortly thereafter, in lieu of greater security. Present time, it is more being withheld, again just from what I have gathered informally, to the benefit of business operations. Seems in line with what you said, too. Hmm...

@LostInTheDesert: it is still where it has been yesterday and the day before. When you get blocked or censored it most likely has nothing to do with freedom of speech unless you live in Turkey.

@Dreammmer: From experience, (I'm only 24 years old but I like to comment on political articles, my experience may not live up to those older than I). Most comment sections in these media sites needed the right sort of censorship so that inconvenient (to the owners) facts and figures could be excluded or better ridiculed. Thus when someone tried to get one of these points across they could put the original claim, the editors could then let the Trolls have a field day and finally the editors could block any response (with links to the facts) from the original commenter ensuring they looked part of the tin-foil hat.

@shaelan: Censoring comments is the easiest solution for those in control.

@LostInTheDesert: I agree with you, and especially now that you've said more about this. The media already knows the facts. Their job is to put a spin on the real news, which is mostly believable, but obscures certain crucial details, in order to evoke bias. If you are ever able to find a truly unbiased news source, -that- is the link you should be plastering all over the comments. Just a random thought..

Your thoughts?

@shaelan: It is very difficult to find unbiased news source. Every media site nowadays are mouthpiece of their corporate or government backers.
Dreammmer · 56-60, M
@LostInTheDesert: If i Know the rules of such a site, I stay away from making comments there. Freedom of speech is not impaired. It is annoying and sad, but there are still enough places where you can express yourself.

@LostInTheDesert: Yeah, pretty-much. I'm not interested in a corporate view of world news, and the only way to clearly indicate that is through disengagement.

@Dreammmer: Alas, here we are at SW. I absolutely love international politics, I throw a political question now and then and usually get positive responds without the tin foil hat label.😊
