What are your thoughts on censorship on social media?

I'm starting to see a trend on most media sites, censoring and deleting comments. I have a been a victim of this trend, most of my comments are either deleted or the site block me altogether.
Years ago there existed a thing called "The Fourth Estate". This was a way to keep people informed and hold those in power to account. News was presented in a non-political way.
Alas as economic playing field of the world was slowing being corrupted by laws that protected companies from democracy, having hard hitting stories around this bias and corruption could no longer be tolerated and so the world's elite started buying up media outlets so they could put their own spin on news and so keep people in ignorance.

@LostInTheDesert: If i Know the rules of such a site, I stay away from making comments there. Freedom of speech is not impaired. It is annoying and sad, but there are still enough places where you can express yourself.

@LostInTheDesert: Yeah, pretty-much. I'm not interested in a corporate view of world news, and the only way to clearly indicate that is through disengagement.

@Dreammmer: Alas, here we are at SW. I absolutely love international politics, I throw a political question now and then and usually get positive responds without the tin foil hat label.😊
Where do you live ?

I'm currently in the US studying, temporarily.
@LostInTheDesert: Which sites are these ? Sites that are personally owned can set their own terms of service.

@bijouxbroussard: Mostly news sites, I stay away from anything from the ME, they automatically block me. Yes you're right, I should look at their term of service before commenting.
