The Fake News problem wont solve itself unless...

the mainstream media takes on responsibility, admits to mistakes and stops with the political correctness bullshit.

for questionable reason the old fashioned... mainstream (or however you wanna call them) news stopped reporting facts despite better knowledge to be political correct. there was crimes, incidents and the people involved not called out even though there was knowledge about it, statistics were known and it all fell victim to some scissors in the minds of responsibel people that you cant say certain things as it will be hurtful to certain people.

but the problem is... people realized that... and they lost the trust into these news.

and what then happend made the whole situation grotesque, people thouzght to themself... if i cant believe those news anymore... i will just listen to other news... better news. news that tell me things i wanna hear.

these "new news" arent in any way better.. and they are defintiely even far more off the truth then some censored news of the mainstream media... but people lost their trust into news overall.

so yes, fake news are a big problem in the western world right now... but the people who created these spawns of propaganda news are the classic news and their lack of doing what is true instead of what they think should be true.

There was a time when we were informed. By people who got in amongst it and reported what they saw. What they heard. NOT their opinion !
These people went to places like Korea; South Vietnam; Angola; Uganda; Cambodia; Yugoslavia; East Germany; Poland; Places the rest of the world didn't have access to.
They went to political party conferences and challenged the talkers about the things they said. Pushed those with power and influence into confessing their sins. Or even confirming them to a wider audience.
And they didn't do it for newspaper sales. They didn't do it to attract advertisers. They did it because that's what they did !
Thanks to them, we found out what Idi Amin was up to ! Pol Pot ! Richard Nixon ! General Jaruzelski ! And others.
Newspapers have always been owner biased. Left of centre or right of centre.
With the rare few perched somewhere close to the centre ground.
And television news the same.
But it seems since the late 70's political reporting in particular has become more and more cynical as delegates and representatives have become less and less statesmen like, and possibly more psychotic liar; possible philanderer and just downright unlikeable.
So it's no great surprise when certain media outlets take a dislike to certain politicians. Hell. We can ALL come up with a list of those, right ?
But reporters have to get back to the idea of challenging information to disseminate polished spin from actual fact.
Only when they do that can you see the true colours of a politician.
Or indeed, a good news station.

but democracies only work if informed people make decisions on facts. either we need to fix news to a point that people can trust them again... or we need a different state system

they need to stop putting their own political agenda into the news and get real facts.

@CopperCicada: only the reporters will get real facts but then again sometimes when its political the politicians tend to spin their own facts. which needs to be fact checked.

@CopperCicada: well... in some cases science makes the answer obvious like on global warming. on other things like statistics about crime i can only advice to be sceptical of the interpretation of whatever numbers come up.
SW-User
yeah because like they say statistics are one of the white lies.. look at the polls numbers and how off they were. i have a hard time believing in stats.

the situation escalated over the last years. there was always propganda, but the ability to produce propaganda no longer requires money and effort... its become easy for every troll with to much time on its hand and a fancy #twittertag
