Parents don't always provide. and that's bullshit, if it was the other way around, it'd be like.. well respect is earned.
@SterbenReyne: see my answer above about 'earning respect'

@tiffanyandasaltshaker: Obviously.... Lol...

@SterbenReyne: your parents don't provide........ Who bought that phone/pc you're using and who's paying that internet bill?

@calicuz: i didn't say anything about my parents not providing, my mother does all that, and i'm grateful. i don't respect her for just giving me things. nor do i respect her for "rewarding" me when i achieve something.
Aside from that, i only have a parent. My dad might as well be considered dead. He was an abusive asshole that didn't care about anyone but himself, and my parents are now divorced, and while my mom struggles to do what she does and manages to stay strong from the support of the people around her, while my "father" sits on his fat ass with a different family, and younger kids, Excuse me for growing up with a different type of "respect."

@bearthebear: if you're talking about this particular comment, it doesn't show for me, though i can see a few others below.

do you mean 'BY' providing for the kid? If so...I agree!

@SterbenReyne: Well, you hadn't said anything about your dad being a dead beat up until this point. Maybe you should have included that in the details section of the question and you would have gotten the support you were looking for. But the reality here, is your father did deserve your respect at first, but when he failed you as a father, you had every right to lose respect for him, and he must earn it back from you if that is what he wants, but from the sounds of it, he is just a dead beat.You have my sympathy. You are at the age when a young man needs his father the most and your father is not there for you. I have this saying: "Boys need their mothers, men need their fathers."

SW-User
@calicuz: LOL, i didn't say anything because i didn't need to, but when you said parents, it slipped. I don't need or want support, same goes for sympathy, but thanks?

@SterbenReyne: I do owe you an apology, I lost track of who made the original post. It's not your question, so there was no way for you to include any "details." ✌🏽

SW-User
@calicuz: Eh shit happens, you don't owe me anything, but thanks.
