People of considerable means, Do you help your family and friends that have a lot less money than you?

I have family members and friends with family members that are quite wealthy. I wonder why they don't help their families. Is it because they didnt earn it? I have heard it said that giving money to a person who is wasteful by nature is like pouring sand into their hands.

I'm not wealthy by any means but if I can give money to a family who needed it , I would but only if I could afford to ....I don't loan money , I give if I can if I can't then I don't

I am an author of poetry, which does not sell and I am poor. I have a cousin who wrote a book about playing blackjack and that sold well. He then began doing webcasts and he made a lot of money proclaiming that economic collapse is right around the corner. He lives in Vegas in a posh mansion. We stayed in touch in a limited fashion on facebook. We had a hurricane roll through recently, nearly lost our home and he never bothered to even ask if we are okay. Removed him.
