People of considerable means, Do you help your family and friends that have a lot less money than you?

I have family members and friends with family members that are quite wealthy. I wonder why they don't help their families. Is it because they didnt earn it? I have heard it said that giving money to a person who is wasteful by nature is like pouring sand into their hands.

I don't have considerable means but I help my family and friends whenever I can and the need arises

That is good of you. I try to do what I can. I help friends with their school work and I put together care packages of food for some families I know that are in really dire straits.

@DanielChristensen: I bring food I've cooked sometimes to family members who are sick etc. I have given money but we all help each other if we can. The problem arises when all of us are hurting financially
