I can't imagine ever calling the police about anything. I would deal with it as best I could, and stuff comes and goes. I was once mugged at gunpoint and the robber was more polite than the cops.

Fight them. Civil justice is the only proper way. I know some will disagree with me but the majotlrity of the time the police don't care, they write it down in their diary and that's that.
