Where do we go when our heart stops beating?

yes, I think in that general area
SW-User
when life leaves the body, all that remain, is an empty vessel
the emptiness is tangible
I'm not sure where our lifespark goes or if it just goes out
I'll tell you when I get there

I feel sure that, so far, no one has come back with any data.
@Fernie: That is true. Some people have reported near-death experiences, the whole long tunnel, light at the end, meeting dead relatives, etc., but without exception, none of these people actually died, at least, they didn't die permanently. So they could have been experiencing something that can happen when the brain is deprived of oxygen.
Same place we were before our heart started beating.
@Fernie: There is no image of eternal oblivion. But think back to how it was before you were born, and that should give you an idea.

If you have clear memories of past lives, then maybe that's what you can expect after death.

@ShoesOfWandering: there may be some who do have clear memories of past lives...I'm not one of them.
@Fernie: You mean, there may be some who claim to have clear memories of past lives. None of these claims have been proven conclusively.

My answer has to be ambiguous. Either nowhere or everywhere. I can't narrow it down any more than that.

quite acceptable

@Fernie: What I truly hope for is that our minds and the minds of other beings do not just cease to exist. That just seems to be such a terrible waste.

Earlier today I held my cat in my arms while her heart stopped beating at the veterinarian's rooms. It is a bit shit to think that her mind is now just oblivion. She persevered for 19 yrs. If I could see her and all the other animals who have been a part of my life when I die then that would be great.

@Wraithorn: I am SO sorry you lost your girl. My cat Rosie died while I was carrying her around on my shoulder. She suddenly felt much lighter on my shoulder and I knew she was gone. Something happened there. It only makes sense to me that our life energy never dies but ends up somewhere else. The consciousness, memories from before...I don't know..maybe that Deja vu stuff is snippets of our past experience. It would be great though if we could see our loved ones and pets again
