@DeluxedEdition I feel fortunate to have been born just in time to experience the Beatles. Nothing like them before, since or ever.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@graphite I was born just too late, the week Magical Mystery Tour came out. At least that was a weird album.

@uncalled4 "Yellow matter custard.. dripping from a dead dog's eye." (I Am the Walrus)
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@graphite Yup, along with Blue Jay Way, one weird and creepy album, though the White Album outdid the creepiness imo

@uncalled4 The same guys that did "And I Love Her" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand" did MMT and The White Album. Unreal evolution in just 3-4 years.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@graphite I know, by '67 they were uncatchable. All of their contemporaries--Beach Boys, even the Stones--were eating their dust. Everyone was still making great music, but they had IT.

@uncalled4 The competition between the Beach Boys and Beatles (and the Stones, a bit, too) made all of them better. Apparently, after "Pet Sounds" and "Good Vibrations" came out, Paul reportedly wondered how the Beatles could compete with that. They answered with Sgt. Pepper.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@graphite Definitely. I think Bruce Johnston played an acetate of Pet Sounds for Paul and John right before it came out. I think it scared the shit out of Paul and well, his competitive nature kicked in.

@DeluxedEdition bite your tongue they started the British invasion

@DeluxedEdition Agreed. 3 chord wonders.
@DeluxedEdition You know I love you to death… but I couldn’t disagree more about the Beatles. I’m a words and notes girl, far beyond musicianship and to me the genius of them is how well written many of the songs are, to the point that other artists have covered them sometimes (in my opinion) better than the original. If you took a song like Let It Be or Blackbird and removed the music, got people to forget the songs existed, and read them at an open poetry night… people would be floored. Many of their songs are simple as far as construction which is its own kind of genius too. I was once told that all great songs are just three chords and the truth and that’s where my heart is. Love ya bunches. Be safe and be well. 🦋
@DeluxedEdition An example of what I’m talking about.

@uncalled4 The Stones had the horrible luck of producing at the same time as the Beatles that stole all the oxygen in the room. Many of their songs are incredible… but they got totally overshadowed by Beatle mania. Sad.

@DarkHeaven I love the Stones and was in a tribute band to them(as I am with the Beatles), so I think of them as two different flavors I enjoy.
