Unlikely, those are filled automatically by weight but it's possible that you got one that was a bit shy..
It takes a bit for the last pint or two to seep down into the pan especially if it's cold... but half a quart over isn't a big deal and you probably wouldn't notice it on the dip stick..

It's possible some leaked out of the jug on the way to walmart. I found a five gallon bucket at TSC that had maybe a gallon missing, pointed it out to a salesperson and got it for half price.

its possible the assembly line made a mistake or your car might hold more i have same problem at times

@LunarOrbit I've had the car three years if you reread the container marked 5 quarts Only had 4 and half quarts in it as the oil is correct the dip stick is correct
