Is it rude to open your gift at someone else's birthday?

Two friends meet to celebrate a mutual friends birthday, due to circumstances they've not met up to exchange gifts before then, so gifts are exchanged.
Just as cards and presents are being opened by the birthday girl the other friend opens hers too.
i wouldn't bother getting upset over something like that, especially if it was my bday i would just be glad there were people there to celebrate with me

@lovelywarpedlemon that's sad
@Mellowgirl it's not sad lol. what you described is a trivial thing to get upset about.

@lovelywarpedlemon what if its a regular occurance.?
IDK....

But as a general rule I never open my gifts until after the party (when everyone has left). And I always extend my THANK YOUs within 48 hours.

Its a non issue for me. I dont like the spotlight on me anyway

Being rude is more about perception. If the person directly effected thought it was rude, it probably was. If she didn't mind, I'd say it was fine and move on. I think "read the room" is probably the best way to decide.

@SW-User Well does the birthday girl asking what you got make a difference?
SW-User
@Mellowgirl not sure. Depends on how she asked I guess

@Mellowgirl I was trying to be funny. Perhaps if you have received a gift at the time of a party you are invited to you should wait until all of the birthday for the person the party was for it would be okay.

Call Martha Stewart, I bet she knows. ❤️😊🖖🏻
