As an immigrant and now a citizen of this great nation

I had a moment a few days ago looking up at the American flag. It looked very beautiful and reminded me of 90s USA as it was something to very much admire when I was a child.

No country is ever perfect but America can still be much more.

What I like about this place is that no matter what you look like, if you assimilate and act just even a tiny bit American you will be treated as an American.

I'm fortunate enough to live in a city where I don't ever really get discriminated for the color of my brown skin. As long as I speak somewhat English and respect people they respect me back.

Even if I didn't speak much English in sure there would be plenty of people willing to help me out.

@llloydfred I mean it sounds bad coming from her but I as an immigrant think that what else are they supposed to do when they are unskilled and don't speak English? they are not going to be English speaking engineers over night. So they need an unskilled job where not much English is required in order for them to make ends meet long enough to assimilate to American culture and make something better of themselves.

You don't come to America as an immigrant and expect a handout, you work hard like the rest of us.

The ones that come here expecting people to speak their foreign language and a handout. Those are the bad type of immigrants that give us hardworking ones a bad rep.

@llloydfred yeah I mean obviously a country needs to have a border otherwise there is no country. So even I as an immigrant believe enough is enough, the borders need to be secured and people need to come in here through a legal process.

@cyberdude28 yup, because it's now 3X hard for those who did their legal paperwork and the embassy doesn't give refund
