Why is there a strict rule on how to hold a baseball bat, or pool stick, or anything else in sports?

I guess I didn't know till recently that there is a specific way to hold a baseball bat and it doesn't even make sense. Technically you are supposed to have both hands at the very bottom right next to each other. I would not feel comfortable holding it like that. I hold mine with one hand at the bottom, and the other one up a few inches. Now I know why there are so many foul balls in baseball because they aren't even holding the bat right. My 5-year-old nephew started Little League baseball and it made me so mad that everyone tries to tell him to hold it that specific way. But he never hits the ball hardly like that. I have taken notice when he holds the bat the way he wants to he does really good. Geeze, why can't parents and coaches have the brain to tell players to hold the equipment however it feels comfortable for THEM. Holding the bat like that is not going to work for every single person. Same thing with holding my pool stick. People have tried to tell me to position this position that and it just doesn't work out for me, I hold my pool stick weird but I can play a lot better like that

I can find no rules regarding holding a baseball bat, including for under 13's.
Maybe the coaches just want to teach the standard way to hold a bat.
You can have an assertive word with the team coach and explain your concerns,
There are so many fouls because the children are in the very initial stages of learning.
There are plenty of fouls at all levels.
When players bunt a ball their hands are in different position to the norm.
Why not ask the coach to point out the specific rule.
Very easy for you to write a short letter to the Baseball governing body seeking clarification.

There is nothing about the rules for holding a baseball bat.

@Roundandroundwego Plenty of Baseball players still lose the bat when swinging, they are holding it the standard way

@Gusman Well, i meant fouls in professional baseball that I see on TV. I feel like if you hold it the standard way with both hands at the very bottom close together it wouldn't allow the ball to go straight forward as often

There is no strict rule on how you hold your bat

@swandfriends you should consider putting the book down. I’ve played baseball for almost 25 years and at no point other than when t-ball players are beginning to learn the game’s fundamentals do they require those ridged rules. ❤️

Well my sister and her husband constantly are on him about how he should hold his bat and then I noticed at the game yesterday the coach was doing the same thing. I just want to tell these people to allow the kids to hold it however they feel comfortable

@swandfriends I believe they are absolutely doing the right thing. Instilling the proper hand position, placement and so on must be taught at the first moments.

I’m not trying to say that you are wrong bc you are not wrong.
