Have you ever been ignored or treated poorly at a store? High end or lower end?

I have a tradition that every year on my birthday I treat myself to something nice. I've gone to higher end shops and have been ignored in favor of other customers. I've been steered to the sale/clearance section when I would be looking at full priced items. Helpful yes? Not when you keep being steered back and back and back. At those shops I make note and leave. If I am not seen as worthy of being there I won't give them any business. It doesn't matter how someone looks or who they are. You never know who may be willing to spend some money. The man who looks like a bum may be wealthy. The man who looks wealthy may be broke. You have no way of knowing.

I got kicked out of a used bookstore after the proprietor lured me into a conversation about politics. I had 30 minutes to browse for books before I had to get back to my job and was there looking at cookbooks. He never let me browse them and kept talking and talking. He didn’t like my answers to his questions and kicked me out. I didn’t raise. My voice or get mad either.

@cherokeepatti I don't know why people can't take a hint. Once I notice a conversation has taken a wrong turn I try to redirect. And either way taking up someone's time when they are trying to browse is just rude. Never gonna get a sale if the customer is a)distracted and b) annoyed at you.

@Longpatrol a couple years later I read reviews of this store and this man had also verbally attacked two other women who were shopping there. I believe he was retired from the Air Force base in the next city and was acting like some kind of military interrogator, browbeating me after he asked enough questions. I didn’t let him get the best of my temper and I think that is what he wanted. He only reinforced my political views because I think I hit the nail on the head. Someone who had been in the military a number of years later told me how corrupt the military was with what they were doing, he didn’t go into detail but he worked at a small convenience store and when no one else was around he would tell me. He was getting up in age so it had to have been Vietnam era.
