Part of it is society putting ideas early in to their heads.
If everything sexual wasn't available 24/7, then younger boys and girls would be happily clueless for much maybe a few years longer.
Not that taking away the flood of available information would stop puberty or curiosity or urges; it would just be more natural and likely delayed. More like the 1950s & 60s when innocence kinda still existed.
