I think it depends. You have to consider other factors. Are they being paid for the time it took them to drive TO you? And what about the time it took for them to drive BACK to where they live? And what about their gas cost- that would have to be footed either by the company, or by the person getting the ride, since you would have to pay for your OWN gas if you were driving, and thus probably also have to pay for it if you are the one in need of a ride. And that all isn't even considering the cost of the service itself in picking you up and driving you to the place you want. If they're doing the service for YOU , it makes no sense for them to have to foot these costs themselves, because then they are LOSING money for working. So that means you have to pay for all of those things AND you have to pay for the service itself.
The only cheaper option I can think of would be a bus. If that isn't possible, then I would assume all on-demand cars would have about the same costs. The smart thing to do would be to rent an electric bike, or if they aren't rented out publicly near you. save up about 800 dollars for an electric bike- with the amount you're paying to get to and from work, it would pay itself off in just less than a month, I think (but I'm bad at math so don't quote me lol).
I guess you could also carpool and just kick in the price of gas for the person picking you up. That only works if you have a coworker near you with a similar schedule and who is willing to.

@LaylaTheTallGirl I mean honestly I can't help if the facts of it make you feel bad when you asked lol. You asked if it was reasonable. I explained why it very well may be. I said nothing offensive to you and even offered you alternatives.
The passenger is not selfish. BUT obviously the passenger needs to understand that the person driving them is not responsible for footing these bills when they're giving the passenger the service. It's up to the passenger to pay for those things, not the driver. I'm sure when you go to work, you expect to make money. This is their work. It's not reasonable to expect them to LOSE money for providing you with service. That's like going to a restaurant and asking them to pay you to eat there.
The fact of it is, gas costs money. Their time has value. They are going out of their way to provide you with a personalized service. You are paying for all of these things when you order a transportation service.

@AmmieBell You sound just like my best friends. They aren’t afraid to give me straight facts and not afraid to hurt my feelings. They said, “You’re feelings aren’t our responsibility. YOU asked.”
If Uber drivers are losing money then why did they take the damn job in the first place?! I didn’t MAKE them drive passengers. They chose to.

@LaylaTheTallGirl they aren't losing money because of the prices they charge. that's why I said it's reasonable that they charge what they do.
I don't see any reason why what I said would hurt your feelings. I said literally nothing about you as a person, I just explained how Uber Services work. how is it offensive to explain to you why you're the one paying for a service that someone is providing you Lol? I don't see why you asked if you didn't want a real answer?

Then the person can walk it’s free or find a different ride 😁

@LaylaTheTallGirl I know it’s like the truth tho…and just the way it is

@LaylaTheTallGirl just know that short rides are expensive and would be more acceptable if it was a 50-60 mile trip for 53$. When you base it on $1 per mile that’s about right
LaylaTheTallGirl · 22-25, F
@black4white Is it possible to get a cheaper ride?
