When you go to other people's home do you connect to their Internet?

I didn't even know this was a thing.
I automatically just assumed you use your own data or just don't use your Internet based apps when spending time with them?

A friend of mine, to whom I will refer as Turkey Man, used to come over here and try to use my Wifi on his phone. He had very limited data, and mine was unlimited.
