I think my niece is afraid of me. Whenever I hold her she cries. Whenever I look at her or try to interact with her she cries

I don't understand

Separation anxiety from parents is totally normal, even if parents are right there. My niece cried when they handed her to me. I assured the baby that its ok. And handed her back to mom. I dont want her to feel forced to be held or tpuched by someone she isnt comfortable with yet. Me wanting to hold her does not trump her need to feel secure.
Fast forward 6 months. She comes to me, cli.bs on my lap, looks at books and likes to be chased. She knows I am safe and i respect her feelings too. I never took her crying personally. Its normal.

You probably don't scare her. Are you around her all the time?

@FutureIdol probably why she cries. They have attachment to people they see on a daily bases don't take it personal, she probably loves you she's just not used to seeing you

Just give it some time, my niece used to cry when I held her too. Now she loves me and runs to me! It’s the best having a niece.
Don't take it personally. This is fairly common behavior at her age. She just needs t o get used to her.

You have to open your heart to her and that child will read it. Play with her and read to her and she will love you.
