Would you offer someone you don't know your coat at a party if they said they were cold?

My god brothers mother-in-law was opposite to us at the table, sitting under the overhead heater in the beer garden.
And his wife next to me, anyways she said she was a little cold as she had her shoulders exposed.
She had left her jacket in the car.
I had mine in my lap but didn't offer mine.
So her daughter (god brother wife) asked him if he was cold...
He then gave his jacket to his mother in law.

It's not that I couldn't offer, I just didn't because well I don't know her.
Also why be sat somewhere for 2 hours cold when you could return to the car to get your coat!?
Eh, that’s not your obligation. If she was cold enough she would just go get hers. Honestly, if she was cold then I probably would be cold too because I’m cold natured. 🤷‍♀️ I would also be concerned that I wouldn’t get it back. This happened with my cousin at a funeral her mom offered to let someone borrow a jacket of hers almost forgot to get it back before leaving. The whole situation is a lot for me. I always bring a jacket with me when I go places because I’m aware I’m a cold natured person. As an adult I feel that’s something you should be prepared for.
@Stark I don't believe you. If you were okay with it, you would not have brought up the topic. She is not here to hear your posts and we are. You want absolution for your lack of developed kindness. We can't agree. I value kind people.
@FlowersNButterflies I’m okay with us disagreeing. (Again clarifying since you don’t seem to follow) You’re clearly not okay with this disagreement because you felt the need to comment your disagreement on my comment and then won’t let it go. 🤷‍♀️ You’re the one that started this not me. My decision will stay the same regardless of your thoughts on it.
@Stark You have more than one issue.

See it depends. If I find them vulnerable like a child or old person or a sickly one I think I would.

@SW-User why would I feel guilty I made my choice.
I asked the public. Is that a problem for you?
SW-User
@Mellowgirl No. I wonder why you said:
But me a stranger should!
It seemed like someone was pressuring you to offer your jacket.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@SW-User nah but the silence was awkward
Piper · 61-69, F
I probably would have, in the scenario described. I likely would have offered my jacket, saying she could use it while I was not cold.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Piper hmm...
You're a very kind person...
Piper · 61-69, F
@Mellowgirl Hmm...maybe so. Maybe not though, since I'd have asked for my jacket back if I got cold. 🙅‍♀️

Exactly! The obvious choice, indeed. 😊
Oster1 · M
@Mellowgirl No doubt or she wanted to be special. Some do and you saw, right through that. I thought the same thing. Why didn't they go back to the car? 🙄
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@Oster1 I don't know they were waiting for the guests to finish eating but everything seemed to be delayed. But where they were they were overlooking their table so really they could have gone or at least her husband and grabbed it and come back.
People are just so weird
Oster1 · M
@Mellowgirl Absolutely! it should have never reached the awkward level. 😊

I'd ask if she wanted me to get her coat.
SUPERVlXEN · F
I actually might.
If i wasnt using it , or i wasn't cold, sure .
See a need, fill a need .🤗

@OogieBoogie maybe I'm just inconsiderate

Doesn’t sound like he offered, but was prompted to.
I guess it depends on the situation. I might not have, to a total stranger, but if she were the wife of someone I knew she wouldn’t exactly be a stranger.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard still a stranger to me...
Why didn't her husband go and get her coat from the car...!
@Mellowgirl That would’ve made sense.
I would have offered it.
@Mellowgirl That is not the standard of kindness.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@FlowersNButterflies for her husband to care about his wife's well being?
But it's perfectly OK for a stranger to offer her their coat despite her being sat there cold for 2 hours...
@Mellowgirl You are quite upset about the episode. That is telling.
