Why beat it around the bush? Just call it as it is! So annoying

People that always beat it around the bush and butter the real truth up is just plain annoying! Nobody is going to want to be around you if you keep beating it around the bush! Just SAY IT! It’s annoying AF!

Is 'beat it about the bush' the Americanisation of the phrase? As it's always been 'beat about the bush' to me. It's an ironic version of the saying unless that's what you're doing here.

We say "don't beat around the bush".

To "beat IT around the bush sounds lije cruelty or lewdness".
