Batman

I just hope Hollywood doesn't go full r-word in the wake of the Spideyverse success, and think they can release "Batmen"

His hat keeps his eers werm.
... I actually wonder how you can hear anything with that hat.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 Why would I need to hear anything? O.o
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth I was talking about Batman 😅

I think it's kinda helpfull when you are in a hostile situation that you can hear? or at least have a sense of noise in some way. 😅
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Kwek00 In the more recent video game incarnations, he has directional microphones in the ears.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@LordShadowfire Well, in the commics he also has a phone in the ears. Because Alfred is called "Penny_1" when Batman communicates with the homefront. And he also has a directline to Oracle in certain books. And Penny_1 sometimes becomes Penny_2 when Robin is at the other side of the responds. Still, the guy is always listening to a lot, and his suit doesn't really let his ears come out to catch what is happening around him. But I guess he doesn't need too... cause he's Batman.

@Kwek00 Why can't they put this shit into the animated movies? I would love to see Batman work with updated tech, But instead they always just have to keep it basic, but then try to make Batman sexy. It comes off as amateur fanfiction, and irritates me to no end. It's made me stop watching the newer movies. I miss DC animated films from a few years ago, they used to be so much better.

When I was in elementary school, Batman banging Cat Woman seemed "cool", but wtf is wrong with the adults who fetishise this shit? Why can't they come up with more imaginative ways to make Batman more interesting? I hate my generation more and more, with every passing day.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Kwek00 That's why I prefer the version of the cowl in the video games. It has directional microphones in the ears, so he can hear what's going on around him, plus miniature radios which connect to the police surveillance system, conveniently provided to Gotham City at no charge by WayneTech industries, as well as a heads up augmented reality computer display. He even has it programmed to automatically highlight armed criminals in red.

But yeah, the Bat uses all kinds of tech in his cowl/helmet to basically give him super hearing.

@SnailTeeth

I'm with you 100% on that.

When I was in elementary school, Batman banging Cat Woman seemed "cool", but wtf is wrong with the adults who fetishise this shit?
Yeah, who the heck would fetishize a sexy, athletic, dangerous woman who wears all leather and uses a whip?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth But, the last movies... like Batman has a lot of tech that he didn't have before. I think it's part of the appeal for a writer & director to figure out some gadget that might appeal to the watcher. Because Batman is just a guy in a batsuit, what makes him special is his obsession that makes him go on no matter what, his incredible tactician skills which makes him have contigency plans, his reason skills AND the fact that he's rich and can afford all these gadgets. In that way, Batman and James Bond share something and creates this sandbox where you can do a little bit of science fiction with incredible gadgets.

In the commics, Batman has an unspoken relationship with catwomand and there has always been sexual tension. That's kind of what makes it appealing. Like some of the most important women in Bruce Wayne's life after the crisis were: Selina Kyle (Catwoman), Talia Al Ghul (daughter of the Ra's and mother of his child), Silver St. Cloud and Vicky Vale (a reporter). So yeah... Batman and Catwoman they go together like peas and carrots. And during the Tom King run in Rebirth, it even came to the point that they were going to marry. That didn't happen because circumstances (altough I've not read the final issues yet, still waiting for those to come out in hardcover).

You don't need to hate... I also think that if you like Batman that we are living in a really good period. A lot of runs have been really good. There is also bullshit (like big chunks of Tom Kings's run) but Batman has had some really great stories in the last 20 years. I'm not the biggest batman nerd, but I've a good collection and read quite a lot from the 80s till now... and it's one of the only American superhero commics I have feelings for. And I honestly like most of the movies. Like the 1st two christopher Nolan movies were good. The new "The batman" movie was good. I have issues with the stuff Ben Affleck does, but I think DC doesn't really handles it's movies that well. Just look at what happened with Justice League, what a joke.

@LordShadowfire He's pretty equiped in the commics too. As I said in the first part of this reply, gadgets are just part of his arsenal.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@LordShadowfire I just want them to either fetishise it in private, or at least make it less cringey and more believable. But no, they never touch on the dichotomy or inner dialogue, instead they use it as an opportunity to cram in cringey, cheesy pick up lines, that the writers will likely never have the confidence to use anywhere else. It makes me feel dirty and ashamed, at how pathetic it translates on-screen. xD
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 The live action movies have had some pretty great tech... The more recent animated movies are more my point of contention. I also don't like the cheap animation styles they're resorting to now.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 I love the tongue-in-cheek relationship between them in the comics, even in the Burton film, with her crazy impulsive nature. Don't get me wrong, the sexual tension can be done well, but the recent animated movies took it too far. I don't want to see Batman walking around naked, talking about his fucking feelings like some simp. I want to know what's going on in his head, see him question his sanity, with less vanity.

Gotham rides that line hard for me. There are things I like, things I hate about it, but I think it's a good balance of everything right and wrong with Batman.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth I honestly haven't seen all of them. I recently watched "DOOM" and I was underwhelmed. I think the commic was actually better, but to be sure I need to reread it and I'm trying to get through "Flaspoint" at the moment... which is 1500 pages thick. And some of the stories are good but ... there are also other ones that keep me from reading large chunks at a time.

But aren't animated movies ussually a bit shorter? And a bit more action focused?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth

I'm not sure... but doesn't this contradict itself a bit?

I think Gotham has some good episodes and runs. The quality goes down a bit at the end, but it was okay.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 Then animated movies have become far lazier in the last 3 years, with huge plotholes, or unbelievably convenient macguffins used to drive the narrative forward unsatisfactorily. They're geared more towards tweens these days, I think.. I wish I had the time and patience to read through the comics, I usually just get the jist of things second-hand.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 I think Wayne's got a lot of shit going on. He can't hold down a relationship, but he's constantly bedding women. He must be having some impulse control issues, insecurities, or feel some guilt at what he's doing (unless he's a narcissist). But instead it's all small talk, no deeper dialogue.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth I've seen "hush" and I thought it was a catastrophy. 😅

I'm just in a Batman phase right now, it will pass then I start reading other stuff again. But because the new movie came out, I've been delving into Batman the last couple of months. I even read all my Caped Crusader TPBs which were on the shelf for a while now.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth
I think Wayne's got a lot of shit going on

That's an understatement. The mans is a psychological mess, but it's his obsession that keeps him going.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 You've probably already read White Knight then... I love that story. It's basic, it's been done before, but it's still satisfying. It's like a double cheeseburger at McDonalds.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth No, I have all 2 books and the spin off, but I've not read it yet. I got loads of Batman books that I've not read yet. Sometimes I'm just in the Batman phase and then read an entire bunch of them, and then do something else again.
SnailTeeth · 36-40, M
@Kwek00 I won't spoil it, I won't overhype it, but I think that one was a bit of a treat, esp. since Joker v. Batman stories always seem to outdo themselves.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth Yeah, as long as Joker is done well. But I'll read it eventually. I just collect a bunch of commics and over time I read them. I also have Japanese and European stuff... and I also push myself to read an actual book from time to time.

But Batman is one of the things that I try to follow. I still think that Americas' best commics aren't linked too superheroes.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@SnailTeeth Okay, I'm off to the bed. You have a nice one out there
