You can try looking into less known areas where there might be duplexes or apartments above stores/restaurants etc. I found one above a bar that cost about half of my previous apartment. You're right tho it should be enough but it isnt!

As long as you work in retail the pay will always suck. Go study get qualified at something with higher skills and then get paid more.
